Dismisses speculation to remove Ken Williamson from captaincy

Welington: New Zealand coach Gary Stead on Monday dismissed speculation that he attempted to remove Kane Williamson from Test captaincy. He said that there is no truth in these speculations and his relationship with the captain is strong. Following New Zealand’s 0–3 defeat to Australia earlier this year, such speculations surfaced that Stead has preferred left-handed batsman Tom Latham over Williamson for Test captaincy.

Stead told NewsHub for the first time on this issue, “There is no truth in this … Certainly this is news to me … Certainly something like this.” It did not happen. “He said,” We have our eyes on Ken right now. He is the player we are supporting, he has been a great leader for this team and I am sure that will be in the future as well.

When asked about his relationship with Williamson, Stead said, “I think they are quite good.” I think they are strong. “He said,” I like him as a player. He is a person who works on principles and brings a lot to the team. “Stead, however, admitted that he and Williamson had different ideas.”

He said, “I think there has been a difference of opinion with each member of the team at different times. The reason for this, however, is that I am a human being and that too a human being. “In May, the country’s cricket board also rejected claims that Williamson’s Test captaincy was in danger.”
