Czech Republic Barbora Krejcikova wins French Open

Paris: Czech Barbora Krejcikova defeated Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the French Open final to win her first major single title, here at Court Philippe-Chatrier on Saturday.

She took 58 minutes to win the final, becoming the second Czech women’s singles champion since Hana Mandlikova (1981).

Now, the unseeded Czech has to appear in the women’s doubles final on Sunday along with compatriot Katerina Siniakova. The 25-year-old player has also won two Grand Slams doubles titles and three mixed doubles major titles.

The World number 32 Pavlyuchenkova had entered her first Grand Slam final on 52nd attempt.
