SportsBCCI Issues Strict New Rules for IPL Teams After Multiple Protocol Breaches

Date:

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued strict new guidelines for all IPL teams after several incidents of misconduct and protocol violations during the ongoing tournament.

In an eight-page advisory sent to all 10 franchises, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia warned that such incidents could damage the image of the IPL and create serious legal and security risks.

One major concern raised by the BCCI was unauthorised visitors entering players’ hotel rooms without approval from team managers. The board has now banned this practice with immediate effect.

The BCCI also said that players and support staff were leaving hotels at odd hours without informing security officers, creating security concerns. Under the new rules, players must now inform team officials before going anywhere outside the hotel.

Another issue highlighted was the behaviour of some franchise owners. The BCCI said certain owners were seen trying to interact with players during live matches in restricted areas like dugouts and dressing rooms, which is against IPL rules.

The new guidelines clearly state that franchise owners and their representatives cannot enter restricted match areas or communicate with players during matches unless officially allowed.

The advisory also came after recent controversies involving Riyan Parag and Yuzvendra Chahal, who were allegedly seen vaping in videos linked to IPL activities.

The BCCI reminded teams that vaping and e-cigarettes are banned under Indian law. It said using such products inside IPL venues, dressing rooms, dugouts, hotels, or practice facilities is strictly prohibited.

Team managers have now been told to brief all players and staff within 48 hours and take written confirmation that everyone understands the rules.

The BCCI also warned that strict action will be taken against anyone breaking the new directives. Punishments may include fines, suspension, disqualification from IPL seasons, or even legal action in serious cases.
