Southampton: England cricket coach Chris Silverwood, refusing to guarantee the return of fast bowler Stuart Broad in the second cricket Test against the West Indies, said on Monday that selection options were open.
Broad was not named in the England squad for the first Test of the series, which the visiting team won at Southampton on Sunday. The fast bowler, while giving an interview during the match, said that he is frustrated and angry. The second Test starts in Manchester on Thursday and England can change their bowling attack to give Broad a chance to become the second most successful bowler in the country with 485 wickets.
Silverwood, however, refused to make any commitment. Asked if Broad was likely to be given a chance, Silverwood said, “Nothing is fixed in this team, as we have seen and people are challenging their place.” All will be considered. “England included Mark Wood, Joffra Archer and Jimmy Anderson in the first Test’s fast bowling attack. Wood was able to take just two wickets in two innings and might have to be out if Broad returns to the team. Apart from this, England can also give rest to Anderson, who was injured last year and the team management might not take the risk of feeding him three matches in a row. The third Test will be played from July 24.
