Bhagwant Mann, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) CM candidate in Punjab, said on Wednesday that if his party is elected, his administration will give the state police a free hand.

Mann, a member of Parliament from the Sangrur constituency, also committed to establish a drug task squad free of political intervention. Maan also discussed his party’s vision for the border state’s internal security.
Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP’s leader, announced Maan as the party’s chief ministerial face for Punjab last week. Maan’s selection, according to Kejriwal, was based on a survey in which people were asked to voice their preference via a phone number.

Between January 13 and 17, Kejriwal stated the party received over 21.59 lakh answers as part of the “Janta Chunegi Apna CM” campaign, with Mann’s name being supplied by 93.3 percent of those who responded.
Mann will run for the Dhuri Assembly constituency in the 2022 election.
Punjab will hold a single-phased election on February 20, with the results being announced on March 10.
