Punjab CM’s Brother Will Fight Independently From Bassi Pathana Constituency

Manohar Singh, the brother of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who had been eyeing a Congress ticket for the Bassi Pathana assembly seat, announced on Sunday that he will run as an independent after the ruling party fielded the existing MP.

On Saturday, Congress announced the names of 86 candidates and the party granted the party ticket to MLA Gurpreet Singh GP from the Bassi Pathana (SC) seat.

Manohar Singh described the Congress’ decision to give Gurpreet Singh GP a ticket as an injustice to the residents of the seat, alleging that the existing member was incompetent and inefficient.

Manohar Singh stated that he has support of many persons and he can independently fight in the Punhab elections from Bassi Pathana area.

He said he decided to run as an independent after meeting with numerous councillors, the local sarpanch, and the panch, who encouraged him to run.

Channi claimed the Congress filed Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, the son of Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, from the Phillaur constituency under the ‘one family-one ticket’ formula for the 2018 assembly elections.

Meanwhile, the election in Punjab will start from 14 February and results will be declared on 10 March.
