The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections on Thursday, with Darshan Singh Shivjot running in the key Chamkaur Sahib constituency, which is also the incumbent seat of chief minister Charanjit Singh.

The BJP just released a list of 27 candidates who have been fielded from a variety of seats, including Bhoa, Gurdaspur, Batala, Dera Baba Nanak, Majitha, Kartarpur, SAS Nagar, and Moga.
Vijay Sampla, the chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and a former Union minister, is the party’s candidate from Phagwara. Parminder Singh Gill has been nominated for the Gurdaspur assembly seat, while Fateh Singh Bajwa has been nominated for the Batala assembly seat.
In addition, the BJP has handed Iqbal Singh Lalpura, a member of the National Commission for Minorities and a former Indian Police Service officer, a ticket from Ropar.
The BJP has announced 61 of its 65 candidates for the upcoming Punjab elections thus far.

The Shiromani Akali Dal is running alongside Captain Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s Shiromani Akali Dal in the elections (Sanyukt). Following a heated power struggle with the Congress’s Punjab president, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Amarinder Singh left the party last year and formed his own party.
