In response to the desecration of the Kali Mata temple in Patiala, Chugh said that anti-national and disruptive forces were working in Punjab and were attempting to incite violence.
He claimed that recent incidents such as a sacrilege attempt at Amritsar’s Golden Temple, a bomb blast in Ludhiana, and the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition in the border districts of Pathankot and Amritsar showed that the Congress government led by Charanjit Singh Channi had “failed” to maintain law and order completely.

Chugh reiterated his call for a white paper on the state of law and order in Punjab, saying that in light of the state’s upcoming elections, the Central security forces should be deployed to instil a sense of security among the people.
