New Delhi: Elections will be held for 18 seats of Rajya Sabha on 19th of this month. The Election Commission has given this information. It is known that the elections in March were postponed in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic and subsequent nationwide lockdown. Now the lockdown is being relaxed, so the commission has announced the election date.
The Election Commission said that the Chief Secretaries have been asked to depute a senior officer to ensure that all the methods of prevention of COVID-19 are followed while making arrangements for holding elections.
Last February, the commission announced elections to fill 55 seats in 17 states. Returning officials said in March that 37 seats were filled unopposed in 10 states. The Election Commission said on Monday that keeping in mind all the factors, it has decided to hold elections on 18 seats.
This list includes 4 seats in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, three seats each in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, two in Jharkhand and one each in the northeastern states of Meghalaya and Manipur. Voting will begin on June 19 at 9 am.
