Ahmadabad: Gujarat is getting ready for the ensuing assembly election to be held in two phases – on December 1 and on December 5. The nomination filing process for both the phases is over. A total of 1, 112 nomination forms were found valid for the second phase of the polls, official sources said on Saturday.
In this phase, elections will be held for 93 seats. The scrutiny of papers was taken up on Friday. An election official of the state election commission said 1, 515 forms had been received for the second phase and 1, 112 were found valid. There are 1832 assembly seats in Gujarat and, in the first phase, the election will be held for 89 seats on December 1. The votes will be counted on December 8.
In the last assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 99 seats and the Congress 77, but 20 legislators made a flight from the opposition to join the ruling party. Many of them won by-polls on the BJP tickets.
