News Desk – With Bihar heading towards assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a big announcement on Thursday (July 17, 2025) — free electricity up to 125 units for all domestic consumers in the state.

What Did Nitish Kumar Say?

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Nitish Kumar said:

“From August 1, electricity will be free for up to 125 units. This will benefit 1.67 crore families across Bihar.”

Solar Energy Push

He also shared plans to promote solar power in the state:

In the next three years, solar plants will be installed on rooftops or public places with the consent of consumers.

For extremely poor families, the government will cover the full cost under the Kutir Jyoti scheme.

Others will receive financial support from the state.

Other Promises from Nitish Kumar

Nitish Kumar has made several announcements recently:

On July 16, he directed the Education Department to prepare for the fourth Teacher Recruitment Exam, aiming to hire over 1 lakh teachers.

On July 13, he promised jobs for 1 crore youth over the next five years (2025–2030).

Last month, he increased the monthly pension from ₹400 to ₹1,100 for the elderly, widows, and differently-abled under the Social Security Scheme.

The goal is to generate up to 10,000 megawatts of solar energy.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who handles the finance portfolio, is expected to share details later in the day about how much the scheme will cost the state government.
