Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused the Modi government of strangling freedom of expression and doing politics by intimidating people. Akhilesh tweeted on Wednesday after Amazon Prime Videos India Originals chief Aparna Purohit recorded his statement at Hazratganj Kotwali in Lucknow in connection with the alleged objectionable portrayal of Hindu deities in the controversial web series ‘Tandava’.
He said, “The way the BJP government is strangling freedom of expression today, it shows that the BJP which is doing politics by intimidating people is scared of itself.” He also tagged a picture of Aparna Purohit in the tweet saying, “Whether it is the arrest of a tweet or any webseries made in the name of entertainment, the BJP is blaming them on women as weak.”
Significantly, in the case filed in the dispute related to the web series ‘Tandava’, Aparna Purohit recorded his statement in Hazratganj Kotwali, Lucknow on Tuesday. In January, a lawsuit was filed against Aparna Purohit at Hazratganj Kotwali, as well as series director Ali Abbas, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra and writer Gaurav Solanki and others in January for allegedly portraying abusive depictions of Hindu deities in the Tandava web series.
