Jammu: A new political party launched by former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has been christened Democratic Azad Party, sources close to Azad said on Monday. The name consists of Hindi, Urdu and English words. Azad told reports that his party would focus on restoration of statehood, right to land and employment to native domiciles. His party flag consists of blue, white and yellow colours.
Azad who held various important posts in the ministry and in the Congress recently snapped his five-decade-old relationship with the party. In his resignation, he said nobody would listen to those who had given every drop of blood to strengthen the party.
As soon as he resigned from the Congress, more than two dozen prominent leaders of Jammu and Kashmir quit the party in support of Azad. Now that he has formed a new political outfit, Azad is set to fight the next assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the Congress committee in J&K said that the political outfit of Azad consisted of turncoats, so it should be called a “turncoats’ party.”
