New Delhi: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) chief HD Deve Gowda, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and BJP leaders Ashok Gasti and Irana Kaddi have been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.
Elections were to be held on 19 June across the country. But in Karnataka, only four candidates were in the fray. Due to this, there was no election.
The nomination papers of Independent candidate Sangamesh Chikkannaragunda were rejected during the investigation. Official sources said, “With only four candidates left, the election was to be held unopposed and by consensus.” Today was the last date for withdrawal.
These four seats are going to vacate on June 25, which were currently represented by Rajiv Gowda of Congress and BK Hariprasad, Prabhakar Kore of BJP and D Kupendra Reddy of JD (S).
