Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president has said that senior party leader Azam Khan is praying the price for opposing the communal forces. Khan’s disqualification from the Uttar Pradesh assembly after his conviction in hate speech is an example of revenge politics that is dominating the country’s political scene these days, he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been targeting Jauhar University since it came to power in the state, Yadav said, adding that Khan has done a lot to provide quality education to the youths of Rampur through that educational institution.

When Khan was a minister, he successfully organised the Kumbh Mela, which became a subject for study at the Harvard University where his efforts were lauded, Yadav said.

Harvard University invited Khan to give a presentation on the subject of Kumbh Mela, and that did not go down well with the BJP, the SP president said in a statement.

The BJP, which is only keen on sapping the education system could never appreciate Khan’s efforts to provide quality higher education through an institution like Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. According to the statement, Yadav accused the BJP of misusing the government agencies to demolish the university.

“The BJP is out to destroy the educational institute, and, hence, made baseless cases against Khan. It has conspired against Khan to find a way out to dodge his fact-based questions that could have exposed the ruling dispensation for its attempt to disrupt the education system,” Yadav said.

The BJP is worried about Khan’s commitment towards a strong democratic, socialist and secular establishment, SP president said, adding that there is no scope for vendetta in politics, because the government as well as the opposition has the same goal of working for the prosperity of the country.
