Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh): Campaigning for the Lok Sabha by-election in Azamgarh is all set to end after two days. Yet, president of the Samajwadi Party (SP) Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati have kept away from electioneering for their respective party candidates.
Nevertheless, electioneering reached its peak on Sunday when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tore into the SP for failing to develop the area. He said that the party had betrayed the people.
Adityanath further said that although the people of the area had sent two chief ministers, they left the area without a word. He urged the people to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for development.
On Saturday, UP BJP chief and Jal Shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh drew religious analogy. Azamgarh has a sizeable population of Rajbhars, mostly considered loyal to Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) whose chief Om Prakash Rajbhar has been pitching for the SP. Therefore, Swatantra Dev began his campaign by invoking Maharaja Suheldev and referred to sage Durvasa. The SP that is fighting to retain the seat vacated by Akhilesh Yadav is also sparing no effort to ensure its victory. SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan has been lashing out at the BJP.

BSP candidate Guddu Jamali also tore into the SP. BJP candidate Dinesh Yadav Nirahua counted on the star campaigners. Bhojpuri film stars and BJP leaders Manoj Tiwari and Ravi Kishan have campaigned for Nirahua over the past three days.
Similarly, Amrapali Dubey, Sanjay Pandey, Pravesh Lal, Manoj Tiger have sought votes for Nirahua. The main contest in the by-poll is between the BJP and the SP. The Congress has not fielded any candidate.
