Los Angeles is the host city for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in 2024. On Monday, the fusion band “Shakti,” featuring Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain, won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album. The prize was given for their most recent album, “This Moment.” Mahadevan and another band member, Ganesh Rajagopalan, are shown accepting the award on stage in a photo that the Grammys posted on their official X (formerly known as Twitter) account. Kudos to Shakti, the winner of the Best Global Music Album for “This Moment.” The Grammy wrote in the post, “#GRAMMYs.”

Thank you, boys, Mahadevan said in an acceptance speech. God, family, friends, and India, I am grateful. India, you have our admiration. Finally, but just as importantly, I want to dedicate this award to my wife, to whom I owe every note of my music. The audience cheered enthusiastically at the musician’s remarks. Eight songs by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist) are included in the album “This Moment,” which was released on June 30 of last year. Along with artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido, they received Grammy nominations.

Zakir Hussain, Bela Fleck, and Edgar Meyer, as well as virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia, won the Grammy for Best Global Music Efficiency for their contributions to Pashto. Chaurasia received two Grammys, but Hussain won three in a single evening.

On Sunday, the 66th Annual Grammy Awards will be presented by prominent figures in the music industry at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles (Monday morning in India). SZA has the most nominations with nine. Boygenius and Victoria Monet are not far behind.

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards are evidence that female musicians are receiving the greatest recognition possible. The Grammy Awards 2024 will see an unprecedented female preponderance in the top categories. Jon Batiste is the only male artist nominated for record, album, or song of the year. Record of the Year, which honors the production and performance of a specific song, features the hits “Kill Bill” by SZA, “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift, and “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish from Barbie.

Rapper Ice Spice, country music performer Jelly Roll, pop and R&B vocalist Victoria Monet, singer-songwriter Coco Jones, and folk-pop artist Noah Kahan are among the competitors for best new artist.

Performers SZA, Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell, Dua Lipa, Luka Combs, and Burna Roy are scheduled to appear on the Grammys stage. U2 will take the stage live from Las Vegas’s Sphere. The Recording Academy’s roster of musicians, producers, engineers, and other professionals selected the 2024 Grammy Award winners. In recent years, the group has made an effort to increase the diversity of its membership by welcoming more women and people of color. This year, the organizers also include a few new categories, such as best African execution.
