A 26-year-old doctor from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, committed suicide after her partner allegedly turned down her marriage proposal because her family couldn’t afford the dowry.
A postgraduate student in surgery at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, the lady was named Shahana. It was at Shahana’s apartment that the corpse was discovered on Tuesday morning, December 5.
As far as Shahana’s family is concerned, her fiancé put a stop to the wedding plans when the groom’s family demanded an outrageously large payment. The authorities have begun their investigation into reports of an unexplained death at Medical College. The authorities have questioned the bereaved family of the dead doctor and documented their remarks.
An account from the news agency PTI states that the girl allegedly wrote, “everybody wants money only” in a suicide note found in the flat, alluding to the dowry her boyfriend’s family was demanding.
Reportedly, Shahana’s fiancé’s family demanded an extravagant dowry of gold, property, and a BMW, so she ended the engagement and put off the wedding, according to her lover, who is also a member of the Medical PG Doctors Association. A clandestine operation in the Middle East, Shahana’s father had a horrible end to his life after this.
Aside from that, Veena George, Kerala’s minister of health, has directed the women and child development department to investigate the issue and provide a report by Wednesday, December 6 2023.
In addition, Shahana’s mom was visited by P. Sathidevi, chairwoman of the Kerala Women’s Commission, at her house on Wednesday. Sathidevi insisted on a thorough investigation of the situation. Additionally, she claims that the women’s commission would be keen to know the status of the police inquiry.

Sathidevi recommends prosecution under the Prevention of Dowry Act if it is determined that the doctor’s family did, in fact, demand dowry from the victim. Furthermore, it seems that the state’s minority commission has begun an investigation into the incident.
According to PTI, Shahana’s desperation prompted her to take drastic action after learning that the groom’s family wanted a large payment.
The police reportedly detained her friend Ruwais, a postgraduate doctor at the College, from Karunagappally earlier today.
His arrest was made possible by the victim’s relatives testifying against him. Questioning has started, according to an officer in charge who spoke with PTI.
According to Shahana’s relatives, she killed herself when her fiancé turned down her marriage proposal because of their financial differences.
His wealthy relatives apparently demanded a BMW, some property, and a large dowry. Her relationship with her boyfriend, who was also a representative of the Medical PG Doctors Association, terminated when Shahana’s family couldn’t meet the standards.
The death of Shahana’s father, an operative in the Middle East, has just occurred.
A non-natural death has been reported by the Medical College Police. Furthermore, after the accusations, the doctor was discharged from all duties within the Medical PG Doctors Association.
