A shocking case has come to light from Gujarat’s Surat, where a man allegedly killed his wife, hid her body in a wooden trunk, and then filed a missing complaint to mislead the police.
The accused, Vishal Salvi (40), told police that his wife, Shilpa Salvi (39), had been missing for four days. Shilpa, a dietician, was last seen at home, he claimed. Police initially started a routine search for a missing person.
The case took a sudden turn when a handwritten note was found at the couple’s house. The note, reportedly written by Vishal, was discovered by their minor son and handed over to the police. It contained a message saying he had made a serious mistake and that his wife was no longer alive.
After this, police began treating the case as a suspected murder.
During the investigation, police traced an abandoned house linked to the accused in the Salabatpura area. When officers opened the locked property, they noticed a strong foul smell coming from a wooden trunk kept inside.
On opening the trunk, they found the decomposed body of the woman. Police said the body had been hidden using raw cement. Early findings suggest the murder may have happened four to five days before the missing complaint was filed.
Senior officer Kanan Desai confirmed that the investigation changed direction after the note was recovered. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and forensic teams are working to find the exact cause of death.
Initial investigation also revealed that the couple had ongoing marital issues. Police are looking into the possibility that the husband suspected his wife of an extramarital affair.
The accused is currently absconding. Police teams are searching for him using CCTV footage and other leads.
