A shocking crime has come to light from south Delhi, where a 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping, murdering, and robbing a 22-year-old woman at her home.
The accused, identified as Rahul Meena, was earlier employed at the victim’s house. Police said he entered the apartment early in the morning, knowing the family’s routine and security system.
According to investigators, the victim, an engineering graduate and UPSC aspirant, was alone at home and studying in a rooftop room. CCTV footage shows the accused entering the residential complex around 6:28 am.
During questioning, Meena told police that he tried to overpower the woman, but she resisted. He then attacked her with a lamp and another heavy object, causing serious injuries and making her unconscious. Police suspect that he sexually assaulted her after that, though medical confirmation is awaited.
After the attack, the accused dragged the unconscious victim downstairs to open a biometric locker using her fingerprints. However, he failed. He then broke open the locker with a screwdriver and stole cash and jewellery.
Police said he changed his blood-stained clothes inside the house, wearing the victim’s brother’s clothes before leaving. CCTV later showed him exiting around 7:22 am with a bag.
When the victim’s parents returned home around 8 am, they found her lying in a pool of blood. The house was ransacked and her belongings were scattered.
Investigators revealed that Meena knew the house layout well, including locks and passcodes, as he had worked there for nearly eight months before being dismissed recently over financial issues.
Police also said he may have committed another crime in Alwar before coming to Delhi, where he allegedly assaulted a woman.
Nearly 15 police teams were formed to track him. Using CCTV footage and other leads, police traced him to a hotel in Dwarka, where he was arrested.
A case has been registered for rape, murder, and robbery. Further investigation is ongoing.
