The inaugural Winter Carnival was officially opened on Monday at Shimla’s historic Ridge by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. According to a press release from the Chief Minister’s office, the event began with a cultural parade in which 450 women presented Mahanati, showcasing the talent of Anganwadi workers and self-help groups. The Chief Minister declared that Shimla’s Winter Carnival, which runs through January 5 of the following year and intends to increase travel traffic in the state, is a historic occasion for the city.

He stated that although Himachal Pradesh’s tourism industry had suffered from the recent monsoon fury, the state had covered for this setback thanks to the efforts of his cabinet colleagues and various departments.

He said that thirty thousand tourist cars had entered Himachal Pradesh in the last few days, indicating a promising resurgence of the tourism sector in the region. He underlined the importance of tourism revenue to the state’s economy and thanked the public officials and representatives for their contributions to the task, according to the release.

The Chief Minister stated that the current state government is dedicated to boosting tourism in the region, citing the allocation of a substantial budget of Rs 3,000 crores, which represents a significant increase from the previous budget of Rs 50 crores.

He conveyed his appreciation for the tremendous help that kids, people from all walks of life, and tourists had given the state as it recovered from the calamity. He expressed his sincere gratitude to everyone who helped with the recovery efforts in accordance with the oppressed release. In order to make it easier for visitors to the state, he stated that the state government has given permission for all eateries, dhabas, and food stores to be open twenty-four hours a day from December 20 to January 5, 2024.

The District Administration Shimla and other departments had set up stalls at the exhibition on the Ridge, which the Chief Minister also opened. MLA Harish Janaratha praised the state government’s efforts in putting on the Shimla Winter Carnival and its potential to boost traveler numbers in Himachal Pradesh.

According to the release, the carnival, which runs until January 5, celebrates the rich cultural legacy of Himachal Pradesh by providing local cuisine, live shows, and cultural events.

Anirudh Singh, the minister of rural affairs, Prachayati Raj, Vikrmaditya Singh, the minister of government affairs, Vice Chairman Himuda Yashwant Chhajt, Vice Chairman Kehar Singh Khachi of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Development Corporation, Principal Advisor of the Chief Minister Naresh Chauhan, and other dignitaries attended the event.
