
Despite intense debates among members, Harmeet Singh Kalka of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) was elected president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Saturday.

The elections were held at New Delhi’s Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib.
After a member openly declared his vote, former DSGMC chairman Manjit Singh GK, Paramjit Singh Sarna, and Harvinder Singh Sarna complained, the voting had to be halted.

The SAD (Badal) has 30 members in the House of Commons, which elected the chief of the Sikh body. The House has a total of 55 members, however only 51 of them can vote because the rest are nominated.
