News Desk – Security agencies investigating the Red Fort blast in Delhi and the terror module busted in Faridabad (Haryana) have identified Imam Irfan Ahmad, a resident of Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, as the key mastermind, according to reports.
Who is Irfan Ahmad?
Ahmad earlier worked as paramedical staff at the Government Medical College in Srinagar.
He is accused of using his position to radicalise young medical students, especially those who visited a mosque in Nowgam.
Investigators say he showed propaganda videos linked to terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and encouraged students to join extremist activities.
How the module operated
Ahmad mainly influenced educated youth and medical professionals, believing they could operate unnoticed in society.
He allegedly communicated with terror handlers in Afghanistan via internet-based calls (VoIP) to avoid surveillance.
Two young doctors influenced by Ahmad have emerged as key operatives:
Dr Muzammil Shakeel
Dr Mohammad Umar
Officials say the entire Faridabad bomb-making setup was planned and supervised by Ahmad. Investigators suspect that the blast near Red Fort on November 10 was carried out by Dr Umar in panic after the Faridabad module was busted.
Another accused, Dr Shaheen Sayeed, faculty at Al-Falah University (Lucknow), is suspected of:
Funding the terror module
Acting as the India coordinator of JeM’s women’s wing, Jamaat-ul-Mominaat
Arrests and investigation
Seven people have been arrested so far by Jammu & Kashmir Police.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has now taken over the case.
