News Desk – The Indian Army is working round the clock to rescue and help people in flood-hit Punjab, where dozens have died, thousands have been displaced, and vast farmlands have been damaged.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on Tuesday, September 9 to review the situation. Relief efforts are being carried out jointly by the Army, NDRF, BSF, Punjab Police, district authorities, volunteers, and NGOs. Celebrities have also joined in to support the cause.

Punjab is facing one of its worst floods in decades due to swollen rivers Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi and seasonal streams overflowing after heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

Key Updates:

Death toll: 48 people have died so far, and crops on 1.76 lakh hectares have been destroyed.

Schools reopening: All schools, colleges, and universities will reopen from September 8. Government schools will start classes from September 9.

Dam levels: Water in the Pong dam has dropped slightly but is still above the safe limit. Bhakra dam levels are also high, with heavy water release continuing.

CM Bhagwant Mann: Recently hospitalised, he is monitoring relief work from home.

Army action: Multiple Army units are deployed in the worst-affected areas to rescue stranded people and supply essential goods.

The situation has improved slightly, but many areas remain submerged, and officials continue to monitor dam inflows and river levels to prevent further flooding.
