The highest civilian honor in India, the Bharat Ratna, will be given to BJP veteran LK Advani, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Saturday. The Prime Minister also expressed his congratulations to LK Advani for the same in an X post.

I am delighted to announce that Bharat Ratna will be awarded to Shri LK Advani ji. PM Narendra Modi tweeted,” I also spoke with him and congratulated him on being conferred this honor.” He is regarded as one of the greatest statesmen of our day and has made a significant contribution to India’s development. He continued, saying that his life began with community service and progressed to become our Deputy Prime Minister, serving the country.

He made a name for himself as both our home minister and our minister of I&B. The Prime Minister wrote,” His parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights.”

Additionally, two images of Prime Minister Modi with the BJP icon were shared. Advani Ji’s decades-long service to public life has been defined by a steadfast commitment to openness and honesty, setting a high standard in political ethics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in another post. He has worked tirelessly to promote cultural revival and national cohesion. I find it really moving when the Bharat Ratna is given to him. He tweeted on X that he will always regard it as a privilege to talk with him and gain fruitful insight from him.“

From 2002 to 2004, Lal Krishan Advani was India’s seventh deputy prime minister. He is an officer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and one of the BJP’s co-founders. In the Lok Sabha, Advani has held the positions of Leader of the Opposition and Minister of Home Affairs for the longest period of time. In the 2009 general election, he ran as the BJP’s nominee for prime minister.

LK Advani, who was born in Karachi, moved to India following the partition. He made Bombay his home. At the age of fourteen, he had enlisted in the RSS in 1941. He joined the Bharatiya Jans Sangh in 1951, the party that BJP leader Syama Prasad Mookerjee founded. In 1970, Advani was admitted as an elected official of the Rajya Sabha for the first time. He held four RS positions until 1989.

After the Janata Party’s victory in the general elections, he was first appointed as the leader of the house in the Rajya Sabha and minister for information and broadcasting in 1977. He was among the BJP’s original members. He presided over the party on three occasions as its president. In 1999, Advani was the deputy prime minister and minister of home affairs in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. India’s second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, was given to LK Advani in 2015.
