Leading Trinamool Congress (TMC) politician and chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, announced on Tuesday that she would host an interfaith ‘Sarba Dharma’ rally on January 22, the day of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya’s ‘Pran Pratishtha’. Banerjee announced at a press conference that she would lead the rally and perform puja at the Kalighat temple. She invited participants to the event who practiced any religion. I will lead a rally with people of all religions on January 22 from Kalighat Hazra to Park Circus. I’ll ask the party’s district leaders to get ready for this rally.
She stated, “I will perform a puja at the Kalighat temple, and after that, we will conduct the rally.” According to her, the ‘Sarba Dharma’ rally will encompass a range of religious locations, including mosques, churches, gurdwaras, and temples. Banerjee promised to convene a meeting once she gets to Park Circus Maidan. On that day, there will be a block-by-block rally throughout West Bengal with the theme “All religions are equal,” and participants will come from all communities and religions. The Chief Minister said, “No,” when asked if the rally was in opposition to the Ram Temple consecration ceremony. I’m organizing a counter-event. I’m not responding at all. While religions differ, I will say that everyone can enjoy festivals.
I’ll keep my mouth shut. The consecration of the Ram Temple was allegedly used by the BJP as an “election gimmick” on January 9, Banerjee claimed, in advance of the subsequent Lok Sabha elections. Up to 7,000 people are expected to attend the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of Ram Temple on January 22, which will feature Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh. Sources claim that Banerjee has made the decision not to attend the Ram Temple’s consecration ceremony. According to sources, her party is not expected to send any representatives to the function.
Mamata has reportedly been attempting to avoid controversy while simultaneously trying to send a message to the minorities, who make up a significant third of the Bengali electorate and whose support is crucial to any state election outcome. Since coming to power, she has emphasized the pluralist, inclusive ethos of her politics and policies and attacked the saffron ecosystem’s tried and true but deadly weapon of choice: polarization and the demonization and otherization of Muslims and other members of the minority in order to gain political advantage.
Regarding Manata’s decision, a Trinamool MP stated we had been eagerly awaiting a thing like this, and now everybody in the larger Trinamool family will get the understanding they require to begin battling the saffron-propaganda juggernaut starting on January 22. He said that Monday will effectively mark the beginning of our general campaign as well, allowing us to finally charge ahead and secure landslide wins.
