News Desk – A 29-year-old woman doctor working at a government hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara district was found dead in a hotel room on Thursday night (October 23). Police say she died by suicide after allegedly being raped and harassed for months.

The doctor’s body was found hanging, and a message written on her palm in Marathi accused a police officer and another man of harassment. She alleged that Gopal Badane, a sub-inspector at Phaltan City police station, had raped her four times. She also mentioned facing mental and physical torture from her landlord’s son, Prashant Bankar.

Both men have been booked under charges of rape and abetment to suicide. Police said the sub-inspector has been suspended and that efforts are underway to find the accused, who are on the run.

Satara Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi confirmed that an FIR has been filed based on the complaint from the doctor’s family. Her body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

A relative of the victim claimed that she had faced pressure from some police and political figures to issue false medical fitness and post-mortem reports. He said she had earlier complained against three police officers, including the accused.

The case has sparked political outrage in Maharashtra. Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant blamed the government for “failing to protect women,” while Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare demanded a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the case.
