News Desk – In Kolkata, a doctor was raped and killed at her workplace last month. The doctor’s parents said the police tried to quietly settle the case by offering them money, which they did not accept. This happened at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during the doctor’s night shift on August 9. The incident led to big protests, with many people demanding justice for her.
The doctor’s parents are supporting the protests. People are very critical of the Kolkata Police for how they handled the situation. It was also found out that the suspect, Sanjoy Roy, had improper access to the hospital and made money illegally by arranging hospital services.
There are widespread protests, with messages reminding the police that they also have families. The investigation of the case has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Additionally, the former principal of the hospital was arrested by the CBI for financial misconduct.
The government of West Bengal has introduced a new law that could give the death penalty to those found guilty of such crimes if the victim dies or is left in a vegetative state.
