News Desk – The Karnataka government on Tuesday suspended senior police officer Ramachandra Rao, who holds the rank of Director General of Police (DGP), after a video went viral showing his alleged intimate moments with different women inside his office.
The decision was taken after the video caused public anger and political controversy. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reviewed the matter on Monday after getting a report from the concerned department. On Tuesday, the state government ordered Rao’s suspension.
According to sources, the Chief Minister was angry after watching the video and asked how such an incident could happen inside a police office. The opposition parties also put pressure on the government, demanding strict action and a proper inquiry.
What the Video Shows
The video, which appeared on social media a day earlier, reportedly shows Ramachandra Rao, a DGP-rank IPS officer and father of gold smuggling accused Ranya Rao, in close and intimate moments with different women inside his official chamber.
The footage shows him hugging and kissing women while in uniform during office hours. Sources say the video seems to have been secretly recorded in his office, and the women seen in the video appear to be visiting on different days.
Rao Denies the Allegations
Ramachandra Rao has denied all allegations. He said the video is fake and morphed and claimed that he is being targeted.
“This is a fabricated and false video. People are targeting me. This is shocking for us. An enquiry must be conducted,” he told India Today.
He also said the incident shown in the video is from many years ago and insisted that the truth will come out only after a proper investigation.
Government Action
Rao also met the Home Minister to explain his side, but the government still decided to suspend him pending further inquiry.
The case has now become a major controversy in Karnataka, and further investigation is expected.
