New Delhi: In Punjab, 102 kg of heroin has been recovered from the Integrated Check Post (ICP) on the Attari border with Pakistan. The cost of this consignment of drugs in the international market is around Rs 700 crore. Despite the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Punjab, the news of the death of youth due to drug overdose keeps coming to the fore every day. Customs officials told about the drugs recovered at Attari post that it was packed with a consignment of liquorice imported from Afghanistan by a Delhi-based importer.
According to the statement of the Customs Department, smuggling of drugs along with the consignment of liquorice was caught during X-ray scanning. During the scanning, the investigating officers suspected that some irregular spots were seen in the consignment of liquorice logs. When the workers opened the bags they saw that they contained small cylindrical wooden logs. During the investigation, it was found that the item was not liquorice, but something else. The total weight of these logs was 475 kg. Of these, 102 kg of heroin was recovered. Its price in the international market is around Rs 700 crore.
Drugs were being brought through Pakistan
The department said that this consignment of heroin was brought to India from Afghanistan via Pakistan. According to sources, a Delhi-based importer had imported a total of 340 bags of liquorice from Afghanistan-based trader A Nazir Company Mazar-e-Sharif. It was transported to ICP, Attari by Kyber-based Logistics and Freight Transport Company. A consignment of heroin, being brought under the cover of liquorice, was landed at a cargo terminal at ICP Attari on 22 April. Customs officials are investigating that clearing agency. After completing the necessary procedures, the consignment was to be sent further to Delhi.
