News Desk – A shocking case from Panipat, Haryana has come to light after police arrested a 32-year-old woman accused of killing four children over two years including her own three-year-old son. Police say she committed the crimes out of jealousy, believing the children were “more beautiful” than her.
Panipat Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh said the accused, Poonam, targeted children within her family between 2023 and 2025. “She appears to be a psychopath. She believed no child in her family should be more beautiful than her,” the officer said.
Timeline of the Murders
2023 (Sonipat, Bhawar village)
Poonam allegedly drowned her sister-in-law’s nine-year-old daughter. To avoid suspicion, she also killed her own son the same way, making both deaths look accidental.
August 2025 (Sewah village)
She allegedly drowned her cousin’s six-year-old daughter using the same method.
December 1, 2025 (Panipat, Naulakha village)
The latest incident involved her six-year-old niece, Vidhi, during a wedding. The child was found dead in a water tub that was locked from outside. CCTV footage and suspicious circumstances pointed police toward Poonam.
How the Case Was Cracked
Police said the tub where Vidhi was found could not be entered accidentally, raising doubts about foul play. CCTV footage showed Poonam near the area before Vidhi was discovered dead.
When questioned, she gave strange explanations about her wet clothes. During interrogation, she confessed to killing all four children.
What Police Found About Her Behaviour
Investigators said:
Poonam is highly educated (MA in Political Science)
She planned each killing carefully
She showed no signs of guilt or emotion afterwards
She behaved normally after each murder, even celebrating in private
At the wedding where Vidhi died, witnesses said Poonam stayed quiet and isolated, hiding her intentions from the family.
All victims were from her close and extended family.
Poonam has been placed in judicial custody. Police are continuing the investigation to understand the full extent of her crimes.
