A woman was allegedly gang-raped by a sleeper bus driver and conductor inside a bus in New Delhi, police sources said on Thursday.
The incident reportedly took place on May 12, after which both accused were arrested by the police.
According to police, the woman was returning home after finishing work at a factory when the incident happened near the B-Block bus stand in Saraswati Vihar.
Reports said the woman had approached one of the accused standing near the sleeper bus to ask for the time. The man allegedly pulled her inside the vehicle, where the assault took place. She was later thrown out of the bus.
Based on her complaint, police registered an FIR at Rani Bagh Police Station under sections related to rape and gang rape of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said the survivor’s statement was recorded and her medical examination was conducted before the case was officially registered.
The two accused, identified as the bus driver and conductor, are currently in police custody. The bus has also been seized as part of the investigation.
Officials said the vehicle reportedly had tinted windows, which are not allowed, and allegedly did not have proper emergency exit facilities.
Police are now examining evidence from the bus and questioning the accused. Forensic and medical reports are also expected to be part of the investigation.
Authorities are also checking whether the bus was operating at the time of the incident and if any passengers were present.
The identities of the survivor and the accused have not been made public.
