Calcutta High Court Form Committee While Allowing Gangasagar Mela

The West Bengal government was given permission by the Calcutta High Court on Friday to hold the Gangasagar Mela this year, despite a spike in COVID-19 cases in the state.

The authorities have also been instructed by the HC to form a three-member committee to monitor the situation and ensure that COVID-19 protocols are followed during the Mela.

Meanwhile, the state health authority in West Bengal reported 15,421 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. According to the health department, 7,343 persons have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 16,32,797.

In the last 24 hours, 19 people in the state have died as a result of the deadly illness. The sickness has claimed the lives of 19,846 people.
