A radio interview of prison department, Maharashtra chief Amitabh gupta, marks the new beginning this week at Byculla women’s jail. On Friday, Gupta was interview by inmate shraddha chougule after “ Fm radio centre” Inaugration set on prison premises, officials said. The initiatives not only aim to entertain the inmates but also help them reform towards the spiritual and devotional programmes apart from upskilling them with radio broadcast knowledge, Gupta said.

The concept of FM radio centres around prison premises is not new in the state. Such facilities already exist in many places, like Nagpur Central Jail, Pune Yerawada Central Jail, Amravati Central Jail and Kolhapur Central Jail, he said. But it is the first effort taken for women inmates. 

There is continually a feeling of uneasiness in the mind of everyone who enters a jail, the officials stated. Also, the thoughts about their family, destiny and case create a negative feeling occurs in the inmates mind, he said. Keeping these elements in mind, the FM radio centre was started at the Byculla women’s prison to take the inmates towards positivity, he stated. “Here, women inmates will work radio jockeys. Devotional songs, bhajans and spiritual programmes will offered through this FM radio centre. Even songs will be performed on call for them, as per officials. 

Women inmates as Radio Jockey 

Apart from supporting the reformation of those on the other aspect of the law, women inmates will also be educated as radio jockeys in order that they benefit competencies for employment in future after their release from prison, the professional said. As inmate Chougule took on the function of the radio jockey in the course of the interview with Gupta, the country’s also director-preferred (prisons), they discussed centres presently being given to prisoners.

Gupta also mentioned facilities that the department plans to provide to prisoners in future, maintaining in thoughts their human rights.   Also, in the course of an interplay between the top jail prisoners, the latter expressed gratitude for the advent of the “e-Mulakat” he introduced.
