Previous prime ministers Charan Singh and P.V. Narsimha Rao, as well as agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan, who is renowned for playing a key role in India’s Green Revolution, were posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna by the Centre on Friday.
The grandson of P.V. Narsimha Rao, N.V. Subhash, claimed that the former PM’s input was disregarded for a considerable amount of time. I am overjoyed that Narasimha Rao ji has been awarded the Bharat Ratna. I am incredibly grateful to PM Modi and happy. NV Subhash stated that his involvement has been acknowledged.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to say that Narsimha Rao’s innovative management was crucial in advancing India’s economy and creating a strong basis for its future prosperity. Narsimha Rao was a renowned statesman and scholar who rendered significant services to India in a number of roles. PM Modi tweeted that he would be similarly remembered for the work he accomplished as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, a Union Minister, and a long-serving member of the Legislative Assembly and Parliament.
PM Modi praised Rao for initiating a new phase of economic growth and noted that important policies he implemented as prime minister exposed India to international trade. In addition, his contribution to the fields of education, language, and foreign policy highlights his varied legacy as an administrator who not only guided India through significant changes but also enhanced its intellectual and cultural heritage, as PM Modi mentioned in his tweet.
About P.V. Narasimha Rao
Born in Karimnagar on June 28, 1921, Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao was the son of Shri P. Ranga Rao. He attended the universities of Nagpur, Bombay, and Osmania in Hyderabad. Thirteen sons and five daughters make up the family of widower Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao. He is a multi-talented man who enjoys theater, movies, and music. His areas of interest are Telugu and Hindu poetry, creating fiction and political satire, learning languages, Indian philosophy and civilization, and reading literature in general. While serving as the Minister of External Affairs, Shri Rao effectively applied his academic training and extensive political and administrative background to the area of international diplomacy.
About Charan Singh
Indian statesman who was prime minister for a brief period of time (1979–1988) After graduating from law school, Singh participated in the Indian National Congress in 1929. In the fight for Indian independence, he served multiple jail sentences. From 1937 until 1970, he was a member of the United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh) state assembly. In 1967 and 1968, he held the position of chief minister for Uttar Pradesh. He joined forces with Morarji Desai’s Janata Party in 1977, bringing his peasant and agriculturalist Indian Revolutionary Party with it. He went on to serve as Desai’s coalition government’s minister of home affairs from 1977 to 1978 and deputy prime minister from 1979.
