On Monday, the 16th Madhya Pradesh Assembly’s 1st session started with controversy when Nehru’s picture was replaced by Dr BR Ambedkar. The portrait of the former late PM, Jawaharlal Nehru, was replaced. This picture is shown behind the chair of the house speaker. The Mahatma Gandhi portrait is still shown on one side, but one side is replaced by Ambedkar’s picture. , Congress reacted and objected to this change and demanded that Jawaharlal Nehru’s picture be restored. The Congress party warned that if Nehru’s picture is not restored, then the MLAs would do it themselves.
The first session after the elections
The consultation began with pro-tem speaker Gopal Bhargava. He welcomed the newly-elected members to the House and started the process of administration. The four-day wintry weather session started out nearly every week after the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government below Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took office.
The pro-tem Speaker informed the residents that Umang Singhar from the Congress had been elected through the party because of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in a cabinet-level post in the assembly. The BJP has nominated senior chief and former Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar for the post of assembly speaker.
Why controversy occurs
A controversy erupted in Madhya Pradesh after a portrait of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, located at the back of the Speaker’s seat, was replaced with BR Ambedkar. Alleging a “conspiracy” through the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to change history, Congress said the party MPs will increase the problem in the House. Congress also stated they demanded to change the portrait of BR Ambedkar, but that of Jawaharlal Nehru needs to not be taken down.
“It becomes a conspiracy of the BJP to trade records. We welcome the installation of the poster of BR Ambedkar, but it’s highly objectionable that they removed the picture of Nehru.
Congress, in support of Nehru’s portray
Nehru was a freedom fighter, and his contribution towards India can’t be omitted like that. We will increase a name for to place a poster of Nehru once more in the House,” Congress MLA Ajay Singh stated.
They decide to install the poster of BR Ambedkar now, as per statement.
On Monday, CM Mohan Yadav, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Umang Singhar, deputy leader ministers Jagdish Devda, Rajendra Shukla, former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Narendra Singh Tomar, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Prahlad Patel etc took oath.
