Actor Thalapathy Vijay from Tamil Nadu declared on Friday that he was starting a political party called Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He pledged to bring about a fundamental shift in politics that would include an administration that is free from corruption, caste, and transparency.
The actor made the significant announcement following a meeting last week in Chennai where members of his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, approved the formation of the political party. The actor released a statement in which he stated, “We are registering our party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, with the EC today.” Our objective is to challenge for and win the 2026 assembly elections in order to implement the much-needed fundamental political change.
For me, politics is more than just a side gig. It is a work of sacred people. I have spent a lot of time getting ready for it. I am not a hobbyist in politics. That’s what I really want. I want to give it my all, the actor stated. The statement went on to clarify actor Vijay’s political action by saying , You are all aware of the current political climate. On the one hand, we have a corrupt political culture and administrative mismanagement; on the other, we have a political culture that seeks to split our people, which could result in an administration that is efficient, transparent, caste free, visionary and free from corruption.
The party intends to hold public gatherings and events once the Election Commission gives its approval. They will introduce a flag and party symbol, as well as their policies, tenets and action plans, during these meetings. The actor did, however, declare that the party would not be running for office in the general elections of 2024 or endorsing any candidate in the approaching elections.

This happened several months before the important Lok Sabha Election. At the meeting which took place in Chennai sources verified that the Kollywood megastar had received a bid to register his party, declare himself as its president , and create the bylaws. Actor Vijay has a sizable fan base in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and has participated in a number of charitable endeavors. He showed how serious he was about making his political debut in 2018 by paying a visit to the relatives of those who perished in the Thoothukudi Police shooting.
