Alwar (Rajasthan): An incident of street justice has again come to the fore from Alwar district of Rajasthan. Nearly 25 people battered to death a vegetable vendor suspecting him to be a thief at Rambas area under Govindgarh police station limits in Alwar district. The incident occurred on Monday when the country was celebrating the 76th Independence Day. The vegetable vendor was identified as Chiranji Lal Saini who, after being beaten, slumped to the ground. He was rushed to a hospital in Jaipur where he died.

When Saini went to a field to relieve himself, a band of thieves, after were coming from the Sadar police station. As the police were chasing the thieves, they left the tractor and ran away. The owner mistook Saini for a thief and began to thrash him. On getting information, the police rushed to the spot and told the tractor owner that the man he had mistaken for a thief was actually a vegetable vendor and went to the field to ease himself. The incident sparked tension and people demanded the arrest of the culprits.
