New Delhi: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan got relief from the Supreme Court on Monday when the apex court maintained a Gujarat High Court decision quashing a criminal case filed against the actor in connection with a stampede at the Vadodara railway station in 2017. The incident occurred when the actor was promoting his film “Raees.” After the incident, a case was filed against Khan for allegedly causing the stampede.

A bench comprising Justices Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar turned down the appeal filed by a complainant against the Gujarat High Court’s decision in April this year.  Jitendra Madhubhai Solanki had filed a private complaint against Khan before the judicial magistrate, Vadodara. In the complaint, Solanki alleged that it was because of his presence and throwing T-shirts and smiley ball at the crowd caused the stampede. When a local court issued summons to Khan, he moved the high court against it seeking quashing the complaint.

The high court, however, squashed the plaint on April 27 this year. The court said that the person who had filed the complaint had nothing to do with incident. Solanki then challenged the order in the Supreme Court, but it dismissed the plea.

In January 2017, Khan along with his team was going from Mumbai to Delhi by a train to promote his film “Raees.” As soon as the train reached Vadodara, a large number of people gathered there and that led to the stampede.
