Bhopal/Guna: At a time when the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre and in Madhya Pradesh are trying to woo the tribal people by promoting their culture and by launching several welfare schemes for them, a tribal woman was set on fire in the state’s Guna district.
The woman Rampyrai Bai torched by a group of hooligans over a land dispute on Saturday was critical, the police said on Monday. Two persons were arrested in connection with the incident, but one was still absconding. The incident took place in Dhanoria village under Bamori police station in Guna.
The incident came to light after a video clipping of it went viral on social media. The woman was seen crying in pain with smoke all around her. In a complaint to the police, the woman’s husband Arjun Saharia said that when he reached his farmland, he saw his wife lying there with severe burns.

When he wanted to know from his wife what happened to her, she said that three people had set her on fire. She identified the culprits as Pratap, Shyam and Hanumat. Initially, her husband took her to a local hospital, from where the doctors referred the woman to a hospital in Bhopal, the police said. According to the complainant, the accused had occupied his land which the local administration had freed in May this year and handed it over to them.
