NationalThousands welcome Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kerala

Date:

Kayamkulam: The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by the former Congress president Rahul Gandhi entered Alappuzha district in Kerala on Saturday, party sources said. Hundreds of people gathered on both sides of the National Highway to greet Rahul Gandhi. When the march was passing by Kollam district, the Congress workers with their upper bodies painted “National Unemployment Day” stood atop a building. They were protesting against rising unemployment in the country.

According to Congress sources, 42% of youth in the age group of 20-24 years are jobless, but the Central Government is blaming the pandemic for unemployment. Even before the pandemic, India had the highest number of jobless youths in 45 years, the Congress said. The youths have been celebrating National Unemployment Day on September 17, the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the past few years.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted: “BharatJodoYatra Youth is moving in Solidarity against anti-Modi government.” The Yatra entered Alappuzha district and took a break at Kayamkulam at 11am, after covering eight kilometres. It resumed at 5pm. On Friday night, Rahul Gandhi met Mata Amritnandamayi at her ashram near Karunagappally. The 3,570-km yatra began from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September. It will conclude in Kashmir.
