NationalTall promises to newcomers weighing heavily on BJP in Karnataka

Date:

Bengaluru: The tall promises made by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party to those who have joined it from other parties have begun to weigh heavily on the leaders of the ruling dispensation in Karnataka, sources said on Wednesday. These leaders quit the Congress and the Janata Dal (S) (JD(S). Nevertheless, the BJP leadership has failed to fulfil those promises, which has let to resentment among those leaders ahead of the assembly elections.

Such leaders say they are not getting proper treatment in their present party. The BJP insiders say BJP MLC is Basavraja Horatti, a former JD (S) leader who was told that he would continue as the chairman of the Legislative Council. Now, the BJP seems to have another idea in mind.  Although Chief Minister Basavraja Bommai and Union Minister for Mining, Coal and Parliamentary Affairs Prahallad Joshi are keen on keeping him on the same post, the national general secretary of the organisation BL Santosh is opposed to it. Horatti is unhappy about it. Bommai has asked him to talk to the party high command, sources said.

Horatti feels he has not been given proper treatment in the BJP. Ramesh Jarakiholi, who played an important role in installing the BJP in power in Karnataka, has also voiced resentment at the party for not giving him enough importance. Besides, he has been given a clean chit in connection with an alleged sex CD scandal. Not only that, the BJP MLC H Vishwanath, who resigned from the post of JD (S) president and made a flight to the ruling party, has not been accommodated in the cabinet.

The BJP is in a soup before the assembly elections, as the party will have a tough time to mollify these leaders, sources said.
