NationalSoren meets Governor, urges him to clear air about his disqualification

Ranchi: An atmosphere of uncertainty is prevailing in Jharkhand over the continuation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren as member of the state assembly in connection with a case related to using his office for profit.  Soren met Governor Ramesh Bais on Thursday and urged him to take action to clear the air about his (Soren’s) House membership.

In the absence of a decision on the matter, uncertainty is prevailing in the state and the Bharatiya Janata Party is taking advantage of the situation to oust a democratically elected government by poaching the legislators, Soren claimed as saying to the Governor.

He reportedly urged the Governor to provide a copy of the Election Commission’s decision and give an opportunity for reasonable hearing at the earliest so that there should not be any uncertainty. He handed over a letter to the Governor.

The BJP filed a petition before the Election Commission (EC) seeking Soren’s disqualification from the House in connection with an office of profit case. Though the EC sent its decision to the Governor on August 25, the Governor has yet to send it to the chief minister. This has sparked a political uncertainty in the state. According to reports, the EC has recommended the chief minister’s disqualification from the House.
