New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday decided to hear the plea of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan against the Uttar Pradesh government’s action on taking over Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. The action was taken on September 29.

A senior lawyer of the Supreme Court Kapil Sibal who is representing Khan in the apex court said his client who was facing 87 cases got bail with great difficulty. After he was granted bail, more cases were registered against him on the charges of corruption, he said. According to Sibal, now that the government has taken over the university, the mess was closed and the teachers were not allowed to take classes.  The Chief Justice of India UU Lalit decided to hear the case on Thursday. On July 22, the Supreme Court set aside the condition imposed by the Allahabad High Court and granted interim bail to Khan in connection with a stealing of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. The apex court also directed the authorities concerned to open the buildings.
