New Delhi: A Mumbai court dealing with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) remanded Sanjay Raut to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till August 4. The ED is probing Raut’s involvement in the Patra Chawl case.  According to ED lawyer Hiten Venegaonkar, “Pravin Raut, ex-director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd did not invest a single penny. He received Rs 112 crore. Probe reveals that Rs 1.6 crore was transferred to the account of Sanjay and Varsha Raut. Raut & family were beneficiaries of Rs 1.6 crore.”

The ED officials raided the residence of Raut, a close aide of former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, on Sunday. And after questioning him for several hours, they detained him. On hearing the plea of Venegaonkar, the judge said, “I am of the opinion that ED custody for the accused till Aug 4 will suffice.” Arguing on behalf of Raut his lawyer Ashok Mundargi said it was a political vendetta.
