NationalMP minister demands survey of unregistered madrasas

Date:

Bhopal: A cabinet minister of the Shivraj Singh Chauhan-led government in Madhya Pradesh seems to have been inspired by the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to survey madrasas in that state. The Minister of Cultural and Religions Trusts of MP Usha Thakur demanded a survey of madrasas across the state. She has sent a letter to the school education department asking it to close the unrecognised madrasas, sources said on Thursday.

Nevertheless, even before Thakur sent a letter to the school education asking it to do a survey of the madrasas, the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) had recommended it. A member of the NCM, Syed Shahzadi, who had visited the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, recommended a survey of madrasas to see whether they have proper infrastructure to run an educational institution. The state has 2, 650, but no new madrasas have been set up since 2019, sources said.

Nevertheless, there are no official records to show the number of unregistered madrasas, but a few officials say there may be over 550 unregistered madrasas in the state. The message is clear. The MP government is following in the footsteps of its counterpart in Uttar Pradesh, sources said
