Bijapur (Chhattisgarh): After the recent killing of 11 security men by Maoist in a blast, the police have beefed up patrolling in the red corridors of Chhattisgarh.

They recently gunned down two Maoists in an encounter. A Maoist, carrying a huge amount of explosives and 2,500 kg of rice on a truck, fell into their trap, official sources said on Thursday.

A senior official said that both rice and explosives were for the Maoist cadres. The courier identified himself as Nirmal Jumde, a resident of Cherpal village, in the Bijapur area of Chhattisgarh.

Apart from 2, 500 kg of rice, the police confiscated from the possession of the Maoist ten gelatin sticks, which are cheap explosive materials used by industries for the purpose of mining and construction-related work, eight booby traps, 20-metre detonating cord, and pamphlets, banners and literature related to Communist Party of India Marxist Leninist (CPIML) and other outfits.

On getting information about the movements of the courier, the police plunged into action and collared him. It was said that Jumde had received Rs 60,000 from Maoist leaders to buy those items that the police seized from him.

He bought rice from Bijapur town and gathered ammunition from a supplier, they police said, adding that on the grounds of the tipoffs provided by Jumde, they are searching different areas.
