Delhi and Punjab chief ministers meet their West Bengal counterparts in Kolkata
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal of her party’s support to fight against the Centre’s ordinance on the transfer and posting of officers.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Raghav Chadda and Atishi arrived at Kolkata on Tuesday to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Rajya Sabha member of Trinamool Congress Dola Sen and a minister Sujit Basu welcomed the Delhi and Punjab chief ministers and the AAP leaders at the airport.
Sources in the TMC and AAP said that the purpose of Kejriwal’s visit to Kolkata was to discuss the opposition unity for which Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is making efforts.
Kumar met Kejriwal at his residence in New Delhi. Kumar was accompanied by deputy chief minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav, JD (U) leader Manoj Jha, Lallan Singh and Sanjay Jha.
Kumar has also assured that he will support the Delhi government to fight against the Centre’s ordinance.
The opposition parties are moving towards forming a united front to fight the BJP in 2024 general elections.
A few days ago, Kumar held a meeting with Mamata at Nabanna in Kolkata. He was accompanied by Yadav.
Mamata indicated that there would be a meeting of the opposition leaders in Patna, capital of Bihar.
Immediately after that, the outcome of the Karnataka assembly election was declared. The Congress’s victory in the election gave momentum to the opposition unity.
All opposition parties were invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru, though AAP was not invited there.
It was because of the objection by the Congress’s Delhi unit that AAP was not invited to the ceremony because the AAP and the TMC were hesitant to be with the Congress in the opposition unity move.
On the other hand, TMC’s better relationship with the AAP has always been evident.
To give importance to that relationship, Kejriwal and Mann and other top leaders of AAP held a meeting with Mamata in Kolkata.
