New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the completion of 75 years of Independence was a time to look forward towards a new direction with a new resolve. Before that, he unfurled the Tricolour from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15 when the nation celebrated its 75th year of Independence Day. Modi also paid tributes to freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Veer Savarkar, Bhagat Singh and Jawaharlal Nehru.

In his speech, Modi framed his political argument on two pillars – spelling out a five-point “pran” (commitment) for the future and how the twin challenges of “corruption” and “dynasty politics and nepotism” confront the nation. He focussed on the big picture. His speech was, however, devoid of any welfare schemes which his government has launched. The Prime Minister laid stress on the dignity of women and appealed to people to take care of what they say to a woman. He said the nation needs to look forward, as when the country will celebrate 100 years of independence, those who are 25 now will be 50 years. He said that he knows his constituency – the youth.
