Bhopal: The relatives of the elected panchayat members were seen take oath at Jaisinagar Panchayat in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. Instead of seven elected women members of Panchayat their husbands, brothers-in-law and fathers took oath. The incident came to light when a video clip of the incident went viral on social media. Those who took oath vowed to provide equal rights to all.

Out of 21 members elected as Panchs and Sarpanchs in Jaisinagar ten are women, but only three women were present at the swearing-in ceremony. In Gaisabad Panchayat of Damoh district, the husband of a woman Sarpanch took the oath of office. Officials of the Panchayat Raj department conducted the oath-taking ceremony. As soon as the video went viral, the district administration ordered an inquiry into the incident, sources said.
